Alcohol/drug evaluation and treatment

When alcohol and/or drugs are suspected as a factor in a case courts routinely order a criminal defendants to get an alcohol/drug evaluation. An evaluation is done by a state certified treatment agency and involves an in-person interview, alcohol and drug tests, review of the defendant's criminal and driving history, and a review of the current court case police report. The agency then makes a recommendation for alcohol/drug treatment, if any.
